Why Does Nevada Water Smart Program Matter?

The water smart program is a community effort to preserve Southern Nevada’s water supply. With a water shortage declared on the Colorado River and Lake Mead’s levels at historic lows, it’s crucial to evaluate water usage in the Las Vegas area.  

According to the Southern Nevada Water Authority, the biggest use of our community’s water supply is outdoor landscape watering. An important measure has already been taken to replace useless grass with the AB356 law, prohibiting the use of precious Colorado River water to irrigate nonfunctional grass in commercial, multi-family, and government properties beginning in 2027.
